The Election Commission has appointed 11 nodal officers to oversee different parts of the Manipur Assembly elections due next year, officials said on Wednesday, The Hindu reported. The appointments were made in a notification issued by Manipur's Chief Electoral Officer on Tuesday evening.
Who handles what
- Law and order and security plan: senior IPS officer Kamei Angam Romanus.
- Excise: IAS officer Hungyo Worshang.
- Election expenditure monitoring: Konsam Binku.
- Transport management: Khumanthem Diana.
- Nodal officers have also been named for computerisation, cyber security, the communication plan and other areas.
What next
The Assembly elections in Manipur are likely to be held in February-March next year, according to The Hindu. Senior Election Commission officials visited Imphal last week to review poll preparedness across all 16 districts of the state.
The Election Commission has not yet announced the poll schedule. Naming nodal officers is one of the early administrative steps before an election, so that each area, from security to spending checks, has one officer answerable for it.
