Who we are
Tark Samvad is an independent digital news publication covering India and the world in English and Hindi. It is edited by Abhinav Tiwari, who is responsible for everything published on the site. This page explains how we choose, source, write and correct our stories.
Where our stories come from
Most of our stories start from public information: official releases and documents (the Press Information Bureau, ministries, the Reserve Bank of India, regulators, courts), reports by other news organisations, and news agencies such as PTI and ANI. Every article lists its sources at the end, with links where they exist, and the text says who reported or said what, for example "NDTV reported" or "according to the RBI".
We write every story in our own words. We don't republish other outlets' articles, headlines or photos. Where we quote someone, the words are theirs as published in a source; a statement made in another language is reported in our own words, not put in quotation marks as if translated word for word.
Accuracy and verification
- We prefer the primary source: the official release, filing, order or data, not a report about it.
- We add context from a second source or official data where we can: earlier figures, what has changed, and what happens next.
- We don't add facts from memory. A claim we can't check is attributed to whoever made it, or left out.
- Figures are given in rupees, lakh and crore, with the source of the number.
Fairness and allegations
An allegation is reported as an allegation, never as fact, and is attributed to whoever made it. Where a person or organisation has responded, their response appears alongside the allegation; where they have not, we say so. We avoid loaded words that take sides, such as "slams" or "exposes".
Crime, courts and children
- People charged with a crime are "accused" until a court decides otherwise.
- We never identify victims of sexual offences or children involved in crimes, as Indian law requires: no names, schools, villages or family details that could reveal who they are.
- We mention a person's past cases only when they are on record and attributed.
Headlines
Headlines say what the story says. We don't use clickbait, exaggerate, or promise something the article doesn't deliver.
Photos
We use photos we have the right to use, mostly freely licensed images from Wikimedia Commons and official handouts, each credited under the photo. We don't take photos from other publishers or agencies without a licence.
Use of AI tools
We use AI writing tools to help draft and summarise stories from their sources. A human editor checks every story against its sources, edits it and decides whether it is published. The editor, not the tool, is responsible for what appears on Tark Samvad.
Independence, advertising and affiliate links
We decide what to cover on news value alone. Advertisers don't influence our stories, and we don't accept payment to publish, change or remove news coverage. Advertisements are shown separately from the story. If an article contains affiliate links, which earn us a commission when a reader buys something, the article says so clearly. As an Amazon Associate, Tark Samvad earns from qualifying purchases.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we correct it and say so. How to report an error and what we do about it is set out in our Corrections Policy.
