The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has asked film and television producers to tighten security on sets after the firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai, The Times of India reported, citing India Today.

The federation wants production houses to run stronger background checks, verify workers' credentials and control who gets into studios and shooting locations.

What FWICE is asking for

  • Do not hire anyone whose identity and work history have not been properly verified.
  • Keep accurate records of every crew member.
  • Put stronger safeguards in place at shooting locations.
  • Report suspicious activity or possible threats to the police and security agencies promptly.

FWICE said verification should be treated as a core part of safety, not paperwork. It encouraged producers to hire experienced people whose details can be checked through its affiliated associations, which keep membership records and review documents, but said membership alone cannot replace independent background checks.

Safety for the whole crew

The federation said security planning must cover everyone on a set, not only actors and other well-known names. Technicians, artists, directors, producers and workers also face risks, it said, and producers, filmmakers and associations should work together so the precautions are followed consistently.

Why now

The firing incident in Juhu on October 18 involving Shroff is under police investigation, and authorities are reportedly examining suspected links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

It has added to worries about threats to people in the Hindi film industry. In February, shots were reported outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty's home in Juhu, and Salman Khan has faced repeated threats, including firing outside his Bandra home in April 2024.
