Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday has reportedly crossed $125 million in advance ticket sales, months before its release, The Times of India reported, citing the tracker Global Box Office. That puts it well ahead of Dune: Part Three, which opens on the same day.

Early sales, big projections

Premium-format tickets for Doomsday went on sale unusually early, on July 20, giving it a head start. Sales have jumped from $100 million earlier this month, helped by a new trailer in which Chris Hemsworth's Thor warns the Avengers about Robert Downey Jr's Doctor Doom.

Global Box Office projects a US opening weekend of $300 million to $400 million.

"Dunesday"

Both films open on December 18. Early tracking suggests Doomsday could open three to four times bigger than Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three.

Dune has its own records: it now holds the highest first-day presales at London's BFI IMAX, ahead of The Odyssey. It has also booked all the IMAX screens, while Doomsday has taken Infinity Vision and other premium large-format screens.

Doomsday will get an IMAX release in China on December 16, two days before its US debut, while Dune has reportedly moved its China release to December 31.
