Students in classes 9 to 12 will learn how artificial intelligence works, how to spot deepfakes and how to keep personal data safe under a new 20-hour module released by NCERT, according to PTI in a report carried by The Hindu.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training developed the introductory module on computational thinking and AI with IIT Madras and IIT Jodhpur.
What students will learn
- How AI is used in everyday apps, and how machines learn from examples.
- Computational thinking, a step-by-step way of solving problems.
- How to detect deepfakes and check AI-generated information before trusting it.
- Data privacy, misinformation, fairness and digital safety.
NCERT said the module is designed for students with no prior knowledge of AI. It aims to make them "careful, confident, creative and responsible" users who understand AI's limits, rather than relying on its answers without checking.
Learning by doing
The course is built on discussions, practical exercises, experiments and reflection. Activities can be done with or without digital devices, so schools without many computers can still take part.
"The module encourages students to become informed, confident, and responsible technology users, while reinforcing that human judgement, creativity, and ethical responsibility remain central to learning," NCERT said.
