A paper carrying four names and a four-digit number, found in the bag of a 25-year-old woman whose body was discovered in Lucknow, has become a key lead in the suspected murder case, police said, according to Hindustan Times.

The woman, from Unnao district, was found on Saturday along a dark service lane near the Kisan Path underpass in Saidpur village, under Dubagga police station limits. Police have registered a murder FIR.

What police have found

  • The four names on the paper have not been made public.
  • Investigators are checking whether the four-digit number could be a vehicle registration, but no state or district code was written with it, so its meaning is unclear.
  • Her Aadhaar and PAN cards were in the bag, which is how she was identified.
  • Her face bore injury marks, and marks around her neck raised suspicion of strangulation.

Police suspect she was killed somewhere else and her body was dumped at the spot. The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem examination. DCP (West) Jitendra Srivastava visited the site.

What next

Investigators are tracing her recent movements and any links to the names on the paper. Police said further action is expected after the post-mortem report and a formal complaint from her family. No arrest had been reported.
