Long before he became a star, Ayushmann Khurrana tried to reach Karan Johar for a role and was turned away on the phone, the actor recalled on Karan Johar's chat show Koffee With Karan, The Times of India reported.
The 2007 phone call
In 2007, Ayushmann was a radio jockey. At an awards ceremony he met Karan Johar, one of the first celebrities he had interviewed, and asked for his number.
"I was like, 'Can I have your number? I want to be an actor.' You gave me a landline number. The next morning, when I called the number and asked to speak to Karan Johar, the person on the other line said, 'We don't audition outsiders and newcomers' or something like that," Ayushmann said.
Karan's reply
Karan Johar took it in good humour. "I gave you the right number. That was very sweet of me! I must've thought that you have potential," he said.
Ayushmann pointed out that the call had not got him through to the filmmaker. When Karan asked why he had never told the story before, Ayushmann said he has to be careful about what he shares publicly. "When I was an RJ, I could be myself completely and freely say whatever was on my mind," he said.
Udta Teer's best day so far
