India can wrap up the T20I series in New Zealand on Tuesday. They lead the five-match series 2-0 after two wins in Christchurch, and the third game moves to Wellington's Hnry Stadium, known as the Cake Tin, ESPNcricinfo reported.

Big picture: India back to winning ways

India's 2026 in T20Is has been a ride. They started the year by becoming the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup. Then they lost 2-0 in Ireland, lost the series in England, and drew 2-2 with West Indies at home without Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya.

Still missing both, India have beaten the World Cup runners-up twice, helped by sharper bowling plans and dropped catches by New Zealand. They have won nine of their last 10 T20Is against New Zealand. Having lost their last two home series against India, New Zealand are in must-win territory already.

Team news

New Zealand are without Matt Henry, who has been rested for the rest of the series with the ODIs and Tests in mind, and Lockie Ferguson, who misses this game. Kyle Jamieson plays this match before a domestic Ford Trophy game.

New Zealand (probable): Finn Allen, Tim Seifert (wk), Bevon Jacobs/Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (capt), Nathan Smith, Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, Jacob Duffy.

Ishan Kishan has not fully recovered, so Vaibhav Sooryavanshi should get another go at No. 3. India are expected to keep Naman Dhir for his batting and Nitish Kumar Reddy at No. 7.

India (probable): Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Shreyas Iyer (capt), Tilak Varma, Naman Dhir, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Prince Yadav, Arshdeep Singh.

The key battle: spin

New Zealand's tall spinners, Santner and Bracewell, have bowled 16 overs for 132 runs and eight wickets between them. India's only specialist spinner, Axar Patel, has gone at just under 10 an over.

Some Indian batters have been reluctant to take on spin. Tilak Varma has scored at a strike rate of 76 against spin and 220 against pace. Only Samson and Dhir have attacked the spinners.

Pitch and weather

Wellington's square boundaries are shorter than Christchurch's, at about 60m, but it is far windier. The last T20I here saw a comfortable defence of 164, though a chase of 216 has also succeeded at the venue. Strong winds and rain have been around before the match, but the forecast for match hours is more settled, with no rain and moderate wind.

Numbers to know

  • Tilak Varma has stayed unbeaten in 26 T20 chases, and his team has won every one.
  • Arshdeep Singh has 38 wickets in 2026, one short of Josh Little's record for the most in a calendar year by a player from a Full Member nation.
