The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is planning a 24-km cycling track along the Yamuna, which would be the longest in the capital, Mint reported, citing PTI.
The track will run along the river's western bank, from the Old Railway Bridge near Wazirabad to National Highway 24 near Sarai Kale Khan. The DDA has floated a tender for the first phase, and the estimated construction cost is about ₹16 crore, according to an official quoted by PTI.
Part of a larger riverfront plan
The track is the first phase of a 52-km Yamuna corridor to be built in three phases. A public greenway 75 to 100 metres wide is planned along the riverbank, with cycling and walking trails and space for quiet recreation.
The corridor is meant to link existing and planned floodplain projects, including:
- Baansera
- Kalindi Biodiversity Park
- Asita
- Yamuna Vatika
The project falls under the Master Plan of Delhi 2047, which aims to bring residents closer to the river through green spaces, cycling routes and walking trails.
When will it open?
No opening date has been announced. The tender details do not give a completion deadline, and the timeline will depend on tendering, construction and approvals for work on the floodplain.
