Two women were arrested at Gaya international airport in Bihar after about 10 kg of marijuana was found in their luggage on their arrival from Thailand on Wednesday (November 4), officials said on Thursday, Hindustan Times reported.

A joint team of customs and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel made the arrests. Officials valued the drug at about ₹10 crore in the international market, a figure Patna Press said had not been officially confirmed.

How it was found

The women flew in from Chiang Mai in Thailand on a Thai Airways flight, customs officials said. When their luggage was put through the X-ray scanner, CISF and other security staff suspected something was hidden inside. The two were stopped and questioned, and a thorough search of their bags turned up about 10 kg of marijuana spread across four bags.

They were questioned for about eight hours before being formally arrested, Patna Press reported.

Who else is involved

Both women are reportedly residents of Punjab, and their permanent addresses are being checked. "A group of six people went to Thailand four days ago. Two women from the same group arrived on Wednesday with a shipment of narcotics. The other four members of the group have not yet reached the Gaya airport," officials told Hindustan Times.

Customs officials are investigating the journey and whether others are connected to the consignment.
