A special fast-track court for cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Koyilandy, Kozhikode, has cancelled the bail of a man accused of sexually abusing a minor girl, The Hindu reported.

The petition to cancel his bail was filed by Koyilandy Circle Inspector R. Prashanth. According to the police, the accused is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode.

What the police allege

The Payyoli police registered a case against the man under the POCSO Act about 10 months ago. According to the police, he sexually abused the girl at her home and allegedly exploited her for nearly two years by threatening and beating her.

Protests after his release

After he was released on bail, the girl's family and local residents protested outside his house and at the Payyoli police station, demanding a proper investigation. The police then went to court to have his bail revoked.

The allegations against him have not been proven in court.
