The government now allows fuel made entirely of ethanol, but only in flex-fuel vehicles built for it; existing cars do not need to switch.
The road transport ministry has amended the Central Motor Vehicles Rules to allow E100, fuel that is 100% ethanol.
E85 and E100 may be used only in flex-fuel vehicles designed for them by manufacturers.
Owners of existing vehicles are not required to switch or modify anything, and should follow their vehicle's fuel sticker.
