Vishnu

Om Jai Jagdish Hare

  1. Om jai Jagdish hare, Prabhu! jai Jagdish hare. Bhaktjanon ke sankat chhin mein door kare. Om.

Glory to you, Hari, Lord of the world. You remove the troubles of your devotees in an instant.

  2. Jo dhyaavai phal paavai, dukh vinsai man ka. Prabhu. Sukh-sampati ghar aavai, kasht mitai tan ka. Om.

Whoever meditates on you is rewarded, and the sorrow of their mind is gone. Happiness and prosperity come to their home, and the pain of the body ends.

  3. Maat-pita tum mere, sharan gahoon kiski. Prabhu. Tum bin aur na dooja, aas karoon jiski. Om.

You are my mother and father; whose shelter should I seek? There is no one but you in whom I can place my hope.

  4. Tum pooran Parmatma, tum antaryami. Prabhu. Parabrahm Parmeshwar, tum sabke swami. Om.

You are the complete Supreme Soul, who knows every heart. You are the Supreme Brahman, the Supreme Lord, the master of all.

  5. Tum karuna ke saagar tum paalan-karta. Prabhu. Main moorakh khal kaami, kripa karo bharta. Om.

You are an ocean of compassion and the sustainer of all. I am foolish, flawed and full of desire; Lord, be kind to me.

  6. Tum ho ek agochar, sabke praanpati. Prabhu. Kis bidhi miloon dayamay! main tumko kumati. Om.

You are one, beyond the reach of the senses, the lord of every life. Merciful one, how can I, so poor in understanding, reach you?

  7. Deenbandhu dukhharta tum thakur mere. Prabhu. Apne haath uthao, dwaar pada tere. Om.

Friend of the helpless and remover of sorrow, you are my lord. Raise your hand; I lie at your door.

  8. Vishay-vikaar mitao, paap haro deva. Prabhu. Shraddha-bhakti badhao, santan ki seva. Om.

O God, remove the cravings of my mind and take away my sins. Increase my faith and devotion, and my service to the saints.

When this is sung

This aarti to Lord Vishnu (Jagdishwar, lord of the world) is sung at the close of almost every puja, at home and in temples. It is attributed to Pt. Shraddha Ram Sharma of Phillaur, Punjab (1837–1881). The text here is from the Gita Press Aarti Sangrah: 'प्रभु०' and 'ॐ' after each line mark the refrain that is sung again.
