Madras HC upholds 10 pm-6 am sleeping rule on train berths

A passenger whose unwell wife was refused extra sleeping time challenged the rule; the court said sick travellers should ask railway staff for help instead

The Madras High Court has dismissed an appeal against the railway rule that limits sleeping on reserved berths to 10 pm-6 am.

The bench said the rule ensures passengers on middle and upper berths get seating space in the day.

It said the sick, pregnant and disabled can ask railway officials or the RPF to enforce the manual's safeguards.
