Madras HC: Non-Hindus need undertaking at Agamic temples

Madras HC: Non-Hindus need undertaking at Agamic temples

The Madurai Bench said non-Hindus who do not affirm reverence for the deity cannot cross the flag-pole, and limited the ruling to Agamic temples.

The Madras High Court has held that non-Hindus who do not sign an undertaking cannot cross the flag-pole in Agamic temples in Tamil Nadu.

Those wearing religious markers of another faith who do not affirm reverence cannot enter the temple premises at all, the court said.

The court also said Agamic rules restricting any class of Hindus can no longer stand under the Constitution.
