Kochi's Garudan smart bus-tracking system against rash driving stalled indefinitely

Kochi's Garudan smart bus-tracking system against rash driving stalled indefinitely

Meant to start in August, the system of punching stations at 12 points was to fine buses that race ahead of schedule, but technical glitches and a funding row have held it up.

Garudan, a system to check private buses for speeding and schedule-skipping in Greater Kochi, has been held up indefinitely.

Bus crews were to punch in at 12 stations, and buses arriving early were to be fined.

Operators blame technical problems and a dispute over funds; about ₹10 lakh is still needed.
