Jamia orders student union polls; two students stay on hunger strike

The university has withdrawn suspensions and show-cause notices and set up a probe into security staff, but protesters want the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Proctor to resign.

Jamia Millia Islamia says students' union elections will be held within 15 days of the union's constitution being approved.

It has revoked suspensions and show-cause notices issued during the protest, but asked students to apologise for any defamatory remarks.

Two students are continuing a hunger strike because there is no assurance that the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Proctor will resign.
