Shares of Subros rose as much as 10% to ₹678.80 in Wednesday's trade after the company said it had won a supply order from Maruti Suzuki India, The Economic Times reported.

The order

According to Subros's stock-exchange filing:

  • What: heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) assemblies.
  • For: Maruti Suzuki's YM3 and YU0 models.
  • Value: about ₹1,225 crore over the models' life of around seven years.
  • Timing: supplies start with each model's start of production, in line with Maruti's schedule.

The order was placed by a domestic entity under Subros's existing Basic Purchase Agreement with Maruti Suzuki. The company said the deal falls under related-party transaction rules but will be carried out at arm's length, meaning on normal market terms, and that its promoters and group companies have no interest in the awarding entity.

Subros said the order would strengthen its presence in the western region and its long relationship with Maruti Suzuki.

Why it matters

The order comes after a poor year for the stock. Even after Wednesday's jump, Subros shares are down about 45% over the past year, against a 52-week high of ₹1,161, and the company's market value is about ₹4,227 crore, according to the newspaper. On that basis, the order is worth more than a quarter of the company's market value, though it will be spread over seven years.

  • Foreign institutional investors raised their stake slightly to 32.70% in the September quarter, from 32.68%.
  • Mutual funds cut their holding to 10.59% from 10.70%.
  • The stock trades below seven of its eight simple moving averages, according to Trendlyne data.
