Smallcap stocks have bounced back sharply over the last two trading sessions, with some members of the Nifty Smallcap 100 index gaining more than 20%, The Economic Times reported. The index itself rose over 4% in the period, leaving investors to decide whether to buy into the recovery or take profits.
The top gainers in two sessions
According to ACE Equities data cited by the newspaper:
- Ather Energy: up 21.30%
- Acutaas Chemicals: up 20.89%
- Onesource Specialty Pharma: up 19.17%
- Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals: up 16.76%
- Ola Electric Mobility: up 16.27%
- Sona BLW Precision Forgings: up 13.15%
- Sterlite Technologies: up 10.19%
- Himadri Speciality Chemical: up 10.06%
The rally gathered pace on Tuesday, October 27, when the Nifty Smallcap 100 rose 2.69% to close at 18,468.70.
"Another pullback cannot be ruled out"
Jigar S Patel, senior manager for technical research at Anand Rathi Share and Stock Brokers, said the bounce showed buying interest at lower levels but the broader chart still called for caution. During last week's fall, the index's daily Relative Strength Index (RSI), a momentum gauge, slipped below 30, a sign of weak momentum. "Therefore, despite the recent recovery, the possibility of another pullback cannot be ruled out," Patel said.
He sees 18,000 as immediate support and 17,600 below that, with resistance at 18,800 and then 19,000. Until the index moves above those levels, he advised traders not to chase the rally.
Partial profit-booking suggested
Deepesh Sarawagi, technical research analyst at Choice Broking, said the index had rebounded from support at 17,400-17,500 and could rise towards 18,600-18,900, and then 19,050-19,200, as long as it holds above 18,000-18,200. But it is still below its 20-day, 50-day and 100-day moving averages, and its 200-day average near 18,618 is the next hurdle. He suggested investors book some profits near resistance levels.
Sarawagi also named three stocks to buy, with targets and stop losses:
- Firstsource Solutions: buy at ₹299, target ₹330, stop loss ₹284.
- CDSL: buy at ₹1,222, target ₹1,350, stop loss ₹1,160.
- Physicswallah: buy at ₹129.89, target ₹147, stop loss ₹121.
Why it matters
The rebound comes in a difficult year for the broader market. The Nifty Smallcap 100 is up 4.31% so far in 2026, while the benchmark Nifty 50 is down nearly 13% over the same period, according to the report. Both analysts say the recovery needs to clear resistance levels before it can be called a turnaround.
