BMC's 570% cinema tax hike on hold until state approves
Multiplex tax could rise from ₹60 to ₹400 a ticket under the proposal; for now Mumbai theatres still pay 2018 rates

The BMC has told a cine workers' body that its proposed entertainment tax increase can't take effect until the Maharashtra government approves it.
The proposal would raise the tax for air-conditioned cinemas and multiplexes from ₹60 to ₹400 a ticket, an increase of about 570%.
Until then, the tax is still collected at the rates set in 2018.
